| Additional Information |
On October 9, 1941, German radio announced that the Russian armies had been annihilated and that the war on the Eastern Front was over. Later, this statement turned out to be one of Hitler's greatest blunders, for it was published in every German newspaper including the official Völkischer Beobachter which in its October 10 edition had the headlines: "The Great Hour has struck; the war in the East is over." Leaflet copies of this issue were printed by the British and dropped from January to August 1942.
On October 10, 1942, another fascimile copy of the 1941 front page of Völkscher Beobachter was published as a leaflet with the coloured words across it "Thus lied Hitler in 1941 --- and in 1942 he will lie again." See leaflet G.55/1942.
Perhaps one of the most effective of all British WWII propaganda leaflets. |
