Standardised SHAEF Safe Conduct, embodying the various suggestions for improvements made by the forward teams, as well as findings from extensive prisoner interrogation. The value of safe conducts is proven by experience both in the West and in the Mediterranean. It does not only give something concrete, some psychological assurance to the would-be deserter but its possession by soldiers who have no intention of giving up lessens, presumably, their resistance to capture. ZG.76 is a variant of the standard safe conduct, which makes it specifically applicable to German troops confronting the First French Army.
